Labour market update for London – September 2015

Jobs in London continue to grow

Latest figures for London’s labour market show a new record level of jobs. In June 2015 the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that London had 5.645 million jobs. This figure relates to the number of jobs ‘located’ in London – that is, the number of jobs in London, whether or not they are taken by residents of London. Although the rate of job growth has slowed in the recent past, this level of jobs represents the highest recorded in London since this measure began in 1996. The position for London’s residents is similarly positive this month with 72.2 per cent of London’s resident population in employment; this is also at ‘near record’ levels for this measure of employment.
