London Output Area Classification

An open source demographic classification based on 2021 Census data developed by the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC) in collaboration with CIS members.
LOAC was published by the CDRC in October 2023. Data are also available on the datastore.

The page gives access to the 2021 London Output Area Classification (2021 LOAC), a new free and open source geodemographic classification for London. CDRC based at University College London, and the universities of Liverpool, Oxford and Edinburgh has since rebranded as the Geographic Data Service (GeoDS).

The 2011 London OAC is also available. For 2011, we also produced a classification of London Workplace Zones. Workplace zone data were not published from the 2021 Census so it’s not possible to produce a similar classification this time round.
