London Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS)

Greater London Authority

London’s first Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) was published in March 2026. The LNRS is a spatial tool for London’s nature, consisting of a document setting out London’s biodiversity priorities and a map of opportunity areas for improving nature. It is important that the spatial data is considered alongside the information presented in the Statement of Biodiversity Priorities.

All components of the LNRS and further information relating to the Strategy can be found here: https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-strategies/environment-and-climate-change/parks-green-spaces-and-biodiversity/local-nature-recovery-strategy

This dataset consists of three layers, as follows:

  • Potential measure locations: Suggested areas where nature recovery action could happen (for example by changing management practices or creating new habitat). The measures listed need to be considered in the context of the priority associated with the location. Potential measure locations vary from large, strategic areas to precise sub-site locations. See Chapter 4 of the Statement of Biodiversity Priorities for details. These are not designations - only opportunities.

  • Areas of Particular Importance for Biodiversity (APIBs): London’s existing protected sites for nature. Includes designated sites and irreplaceable habitats.

  • Areas that Could Become of Particular Importance (ACBs): Parts of the Potential measure locations that fall outside APIBs. These are not designations - only opportunities.

Please note that this dataset does not fully reflect the LNRS Local Habitat Map. Some polygons and attributes have been removed in order to make the data suitable for publication under an Open Government License – further details are provided in the metadata document.
